Before You Book

Make sure you've found a tutor you'd like to try. If you haven't browsed yet, start with our guide on finding a tutor.

You'll need a TutorLingua account to book. If you don't have one, you'll be prompted to create one during checkout.

Step-by-Step Booking

1. Visit the Tutor's Profile

Navigate to the tutor's profile page. You can get there by browsing the tutor directory or using a direct booking link the tutor has shared with you.

2. Choose a Service

Select the type of lesson you want. You'll see all available services with:

  • Lesson name and description
  • Duration (e.g., 30, 45, or 60 minutes)
  • Price per session

If the tutor offers a trial lesson, consider starting there.

3. Pick a Date and Time

A calendar will show the tutor's available time slots. All times are displayed in your local timezone, so what you see is what you get.

  • Green slots are available
  • Greyed-out slots are already booked or outside the tutor's hours

Select a date, then choose a time that works for you.

4. Enter Your Details

Fill in your information:

  • Name — How the tutor will address you
  • Email — For booking confirmations
  • Timezone — Auto-detected, but double-check it
  • Notes — Tell the tutor about your goals, level, or anything you'd like to focus on

5. Choose a Payment Method

Depending on the tutor's settings, you may see:

  • Card payment — Pay instantly via Stripe
  • Session package — Use prepaid lesson credits
  • Manual payment — Pay the tutor directly via Venmo, PayPal, or bank transfer

6. Confirm Your Booking

Review everything and click Confirm. You'll receive:

  • A confirmation email with all the details
  • A calendar invite (if enabled)
  • The tutor's meeting link or lesson instructions

What to Expect

After booking, the tutor may send you a welcome message or pre-lesson questionnaire. Check your email and TutorLingua notifications.

Most lessons happen via video call. The tutor will share a meeting link — usually Google Meet, Zoom, or the TutorLingua video room.

How to Prepare

  1. Test your tech — Check your camera, microphone, and internet connection
  2. Find a quiet space — Minimise background noise
  3. Have materials ready — Notebook, pen, or any textbook you're using
  4. Write down your goals — What do you want to achieve in this lesson?
  5. Be on time — Join the meeting link a minute or two early

Rescheduling or Cancelling

Need to change your booking? Open the booking details from your dashboard and click Reschedule or Cancel.

Check the tutor's cancellation policy — some require notice to avoid charges.
