How to use it

Analizar means 'to analyse' — systematically examining a question, text, data set, or argument to understand its components and implications. At B2 it is central to academic and formal debate register: 'analizar los datos', 'analizar las causas', 'analizar un argumento'. The noun el análisis is equally important ('un análisis riguroso/exhaustivo/superficial'). Pattern: analizar + direct object (no preposition needed). The infinitive is used after modal/impersonal structures: 'conviene analizar…', 'hay que analizar…'.

Common mistake

Analizar requires a direct object without a preposition — not *'analizar de los datos', just 'analizar los datos'. The noun el análisis is masculine despite ending in -is: 'el análisis' (not *'la análisis'). For stylistic variety at B2+: examinar (examine), estudiar (study), and evaluar (evaluate) can substitute, each with a slightly different shade. Analizar implies systematic decomposition; examinar is closer to scrutiny; evaluar focuses on judgement.
