How to use it
Emitir means 'to issue', 'to emit', or 'to broadcast'. At B2 it covers three registers: formal/legal (emitir un veredicto, emitir un informe — to issue a ruling or report), environmental (emitir gases — to emit gases), and media (emitir un programa — to broadcast a programme). The key formal pattern is emitir + institutional noun (dictamen, veredicto, resolución, informe). The noun is la emisión. Don't confuse with publicar (to publish) — emitir is used for official issuance, verdicts, and broadcasting.
Common mistake
Emitir is formally restricted — don't use it in informal contexts (*emitió un comentario sounds odd; dicho sería más natural). The three registers (legal, environmental, broadcasting) need to be learnt as separate collocational patterns.
