How to use it
Mostrar means 'to show', 'to display', or 'to reveal'. At B2 it is most important in evidential contexts: los datos muestran que…, los resultados muestran una tendencia. This use (presenting evidence to support a claim) is essential in academic and journalistic writing. Distinct from demostrar (prove) — mostrar presents data without necessarily proving causality.
Common mistake
Mostrar vs. enseñar: in Spain, enseñar can mean both 'show' and 'teach'; mostrar is unambiguously 'show'. Mostrar vs. demostrar: mostrar presents data; demostrar establishes proof. Los datos muestran que + indicative is a key B2 academic formula. No reflexive needed for the evidential sense.
