How to use it
El remedio means 'remedy' or 'cure' — a solution or treatment for a problem, illness, or difficult situation. At B2 it is used in both the literal medical sense and the metaphorical policy/social sense. Key collocations: no hay remedio (there is nothing to be done — idiomatic), un remedio efectivo/urgente, el remedio es peor que la enfermedad (the cure is worse than the disease), buscar/encontrar un remedio. Distinguish from cura (cure — more specifically the eradication of a disease: no hay cura para X) and solución (solution — broader problem-solving term).
Common mistake
Remedio (remedy — may not fully eradicate the problem) vs cura (cure — implies complete eradication: la cura del cáncer) vs solución (solution — general problem-solving: la solución a un problema matemático). 'No hay remedio' is an idiomatic phrase meaning 'there's nothing to be done/it can't be helped'. Sin remedio = hopelessly, inevitably: 'llegó tarde, sin remedio'. Do not use *medicina for remedio in this abstract sense.
