How to use it
Respecto a (or con respecto a) is a formal topic-framing preposition phrase synonymous with en cuanto a — it signals 'regarding / with respect to' and is followed by a noun phrase. The two variants (respecto a / con respecto a) are interchangeable; con respecto a is slightly more common in formal written prose. It is common in reports, official correspondence, and presentations. Respecto de is an older/legal variant also found in written registers.
Common mistake
Both respecto a and con respecto a are correct. Do not write 'respecto de' in general prose unless in legal/formal citation contexts. Like en cuanto a, this always takes a noun phrase — 'respecto a que llegaron tarde' is non-standard; use 'en cuanto al retraso' or rephrase.
