How to use it
El honor (noun, masculine) means 'honour' or 'integrity' — a quality of moral character combined with public respect. Key collocations: actuar con honor; defender el honor; en honor a (in honour of); palabra de honor; hombre/mujer de honor; campo de honor. Distinguish from honra (personal/family honour — more emotionally loaded and associated with reputation and shame) and prestigio (prestige — based on achievement). Note: both honor and honra are used in Spanish.
Common mistake
Honor and honra both mean 'honour' but with different nuances: honor is more public/professional, honra more personal/emotional. En honor a + noun (in honour of) — do not say *en el honor de. Honorable and honrado (honourable/honest) are the related adjectives. 'It's an honour' = es un honor (not *es un honor de).
