Maduro/a means 'mature' — fully developed; also: ripe (for food), or showing wisdom from experience. Three related senses: (1) ripe (fruta madura); (2) emotionally/intellectually mature (persona madura, actitud madura); (3) fully developed in business/market terms (mercado maduro). Ser/estar: ser for character; estar for ripeness ('la fruta está madura').
Common mistake
Maduro ≠ mayor: mayor means older (in age); maduro implies being fully developed or showing wisdom. A joven maduro is a young person with a mature outlook; a persona mayor is simply an older person.
