How to use it
La reacción (noun, feminine) means 'reaction, response' — both an emotional/social response to events and a chemical reaction. Core B2 collocations: la reacción de alguien ante algo; reacción en cadena; reacción química/adversa; provocar/desencadenar una reacción. The verb is reaccionar. Distinguish from respuesta (reply, answer — more deliberate) and comportamiento (behaviour — ongoing).
Common mistake
Reacción adversa is the medical term for adverse reaction (to a drug). 'Gut reaction' = reacción visceral/instintiva. 'Overreaction' = reacción exagerada or sobreacción. Don't use respuesta when the spontaneous, immediate quality of reacción is meant.
