How to use it
Remitir means 'to send' or 'to forward' in formal written correspondence. It is a high-register alternative to enviar. Pattern: remitir algo a alguien. In institutional and professional emails: Le remito la documentación solicitada / Remitimos a continuación el informe…. Remitir also has the meaning 'to refer to' a source in academic or legal writing: Le remito al artículo 3 del contrato (I refer you to Article 3 of the contract). Register: formal-written only — do not use remitir in speech.
Common mistake
Register: remitir sounds very formal in speech — using it in conversation sounds stiff. Use enviar or mandar in spoken contexts. In formal emails and letters, remitir is the natural choice. The 'refer to' sense (le remito a) is distinct from 'send' — context usually makes this clear, but learners sometimes confuse them. Also: remitir algo a alguien (double object: thing + to person) — don't omit the indirect object pronoun.
