How to use it
El/la oyente (common-gender noun, from the verb oír, to hear) means 'listener'. Very common in radio: los oyentes de un programa. It also names a student who attends a university course without being formally enrolled: asistir como oyente.
Common mistake
Oyente (from oír, to hear) is not the same as audiencia (audience, a collective noun for the whole listening/viewing public) — un oyente is one individual person within the larger audiencia.
